🍂 There’s Still Time to Make Your Next Career Move Before Christmas 🍂
The mornings are getting cooler, the evenings are drawing in and for us it’s never too early to talk about Christmas.
If you’ve been thinking about changing jobs, it can be tempting to say, “I’ll leave it until January.” A new year, a fresh start… it sounds like a sensible plan.
But you don’t have to wait for the calendar to change to take that first step. Whether you’re ready to move now or simply want to explore your options, October could be the month to get the conversation started. 🌷
What would you like to be different?
Before you start sending your CV everywhere, take a little time to think about what you actually want from your next role.
Perhaps you’d love a shorter commute, more flexibility or the chance to learn something new. Maybe you’re ready for more responsibility, or you simply want to work with a lovely team where you feel appreciated.
Salary matters, of course, but so does how a job fits into your life. Knowing what’s important to you makes it much easier to recognise a good opportunity when it comes along.
Give your CV a little autumn refresh 🍂
Updating your CV can feel like one of those jobs that’s always on the list!
Start with your most recent role. Have you taken on extra responsibilities, learnt a new system, supported a project or helped a colleague get up to speed? These are all things worth including.
Keep it clear and easy to read, and give examples of what you’ve done. You don’t need lots of fancy wording, just a good overview of your experience and what you could bring to a new team.
Keep an open mind đź’
Your next opportunity might look a little different from what you first imagined.  It could be a similar role in a new industry, a position with room to grow or a temporary assignment that gives you the chance to try something different.
Temporary work can be a lovely option if you’re available now, returning to work or deciding what you’d like to do next. It can help you build experience and get to know a new workplace, although there’s no guarantee an assignment will become permanent.
You don’t have to have every detail of your career mapped out before exploring what’s available.
Have a conversation, even if you’re only thinking about it
Speaking to a recruiter doesn’t mean you have to hand in your notice tomorrow.  Sometimes it’s simply a chance to talk through your experience, explain what you’re looking for and ask a few questions. If you’re currently working, your notice period will also help shape a realistic timescale for a move.
And if the right role doesn’t come along before Christmas, you’ll still have taken a useful step towards your next chapter. There’s no need to put pressure on yourself to meet a festive deadline.
Let’s see what could be next 🌸
