Top 10 Interview Questions
Whilst every interview is different Kim, Sam and Sarah have been in recruitment long enough to know some questions come up time and again. Get interview ready by looking at the ten questions that get asked most frequently by employers ……
Tell me about yourself/your work experience
Often the first question you will get asked and one of the most important. Keep it brief, know your CV and concentrate on giving a one- to-two-minute advertisement for yourself, highlighting key achievements. Prepare what you are going to say beforehand.
Why do you want to work for this company/want this job?
Preparation is key here so research the company and be clear on the job, show why you are the ideal match for them.
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
This can be a tricky one but handles well you can avoid bragging when highlighting your strengths and show self-awareness without seeming excessively negative.
Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
Whilst tempting to answer “Sipping Pina Colada’s on my mega-yacht” consider your short and long-term goals and be able to highlight how you will get there.
Why do you want to leave your current role?
Be honest but keep it positive and stay professional
What are your salary expectations?
Questions about money can always be tricky to answer but being prepared can help. Know the salary on offer, do not underestimate your worth or price yourself out of an offer.
How would your manager/colleagues describe you?
Be honest and try and pull-out strengths you have not used elsewhere in the interview
Tell me about a challenging situation and how you overcame it?
Focus on a work-related issue and be confident in describing the steps you took to overcome it.
How do you prioritise your work?
Employers want to know you can handle pressure and multi-task, use real examples to show how you juggle different tasks but still deliver work that is high quality and on time
What is your greatest achievement?
Your answer should evidence skills relevant to the job such as teamwork, communication, and organisation. For inspiration, think of awards you have won, events you have organised, things you have learned or fears you have overcome.
