Our top 10 interview tips…
Even the most seasoned interviewee will be nervous going into an interview, so preparation is key. If you feel 100% prepared you will feel confident, and chances of job success will increase significantly. Here are Alexander Mae’s top ten interview tips…..
- Do your research – learn as much as possible about the company, try and go beyond the company website
- Look the part – dress professionally so the interviewer is listening to what you are saying and not concentrating on what you are wearing.
- Don’t go empty handed – take a copy of your CV, proof of Right to Work and any questions you have prepared to ask
- Arrive early – being late for an interview rarely ends well
- Project enthusiasm – be passionate and bring a little energy to the room, a firm handshake, good eye contact and speaking clearly to demonstrate confidence (even if you are feeling nervous)
- Listen carefully – demonstrate active listening, do not interrupt the interviewer, and maintain eye contact
- Give specific examples – this will help interviewers assess your skills far more accurately than giving generic answers
- Ask questions – Nothing screams disinterest louder than not having questions to ask at the end of an interview. Prepare questions beforehand and take them in with you.
- End on the right note – a firm handshake, good eye-contact and thank your interviewer for their time
- Follow up – emailing to confirm your interest and ask if the interviewer has any additional questions shows interest in the role and allows the opportunity to address issues or concerns
