How to write your CV to get the best outcome…. an interview!

Your CV is your tool to apply for a job, gain an interview and hopefully get the job.  But with such advanced technology allowing applying for jobs to be quick and easy it’s wise to take a moment to ensure your CV represents you as the best possible candidate for the vacancy you are applying for.

But what can you do to give you every possible chance of gaining an interview… Read on….

🌺 Take time to write a Profile or Summary about you.  This is a quick overview of you…. What you have done, what you can do and what you want to do.  Ensure it’s good enough to capture their interest to read on to the rest of your CV

🌺Ideally you should tailor your CV to each job application.  Look at the job description and ensure if you have everything on their wish list, it’s listed on your CV (if it’s not on their they won’t know you have the experience).  Ensure this is highlighted and not hidden at the bottom or on page 2 or 3 of your CV.

🌺 As well has ensuring your experience is on your CV, ensure you list the fantastic things you have accomplished.  That would be gaining recognition from a client, reducing costs, hitting KPI’s or SLA’s or a sales target.  We aren’t always great at blowing our own trumpet 🎺but your CV is the place for this!

🌺Why should an employer pick you from the other CV’s and the interviews.  What are you great at?  What do you love doing which is related to this job.  Ask your friends, family and colleagues for their opinions, they will give you so many things you are brilliant at.  Give some short examples if you feel appropriate.

🌺Avoid using abbreviations or internal jargon on your CV (get someone who doesn’t work with you to read it over)

🌺Ensure your CV is tech friendly too.  Use your job title in your CV, mention IT systems or CRMs that you have used.  This may be picked up by any technology filtering the company use

🌺 Spell check

🌺and don’t forget you are amazing, you are unique and come with fantastic skills and experience, it’s also about if the company has done enough to impress you too.
