How to write a cover letter for work experience

Work experience is an important step in understating work and the process of life after school. Because of this it is important to show any employers and businesses you are not only wanting to spend your week placement with them but also to show you have excitement and interest in what they do and what you can learn from the week. This is by writing an enthusiastic and intriguing work experience cover letter to the employer of your choice…

Information about you, your interests, and things you would like to gain from the opportunity are crucial to include in your application to stand out and secure a placement. Including information about your hobbies, strengths and stuff you would like to work on or improve through the opportunity are helpful to the employer to make sure their offer of work experience is right for you.  This will benefit not only you and your skill set but benefit them as you are working for them under their employment for the week. Mention things like…

  • Subjects you take in school and the ones you enjoy the most, how they apply to the work you will be doing with the employer.
  • Strength you have.
  • Hobbies outside of school and your interests that could give more insight to you as a person and your skill set.
  • How you could benefit from a placement and grow further with the employer and how they could benefit from having you.
  • Basic information such as, times and days you will be wanting to work with the employer and what school you are currently attending.
  • Make sure the employer knows your enthusiasm in working with the company as work experience is an opportunity to learn and understand what work and what the world outside of school is really like. It’s an opportunity to spend a week working in something that interests you or to find out what it is you want to do.
  • Research the company you’re interested in and make sure to check out websites to understand what they do and what you will be expected to do and what you can expect on your week of placement.
