How to start a new job well………
With King Charles coronation just a few weeks away he is, starting a new job. Whilst he knows what is expected, like anyone moving roles I am sure he is excited, nervous, and possibly struggling with a touch of imposter syndrome. The first few weeks in a new position are when you make your first impressions so here are a few tips on how to do this successfully.
Get to know your colleagues and build relationships.
The most important thing when joining a new business is to build relationships. If you have been in your current organisation for a while, you may not appreciate bow your relationships directly impact your success, build trust by getting to know your colleagues, understand what they do, their needs and how you can provide value to them. Remember to resect history and show respect for what is already in place and understand building relationships can take time.
Understand the business.
When you join a new company, the reality is you probably only know as much as you needed to to prepare for the interview. Spend time learning about the company and its culture so you can align your work to the goals of the business and behave in a way that fits with the culture.
Be confident.
Even if being in a new workplace is daunting, every new role takes time to learn. Ask questions, have faith in your abilities, focus on the things you do well and take criticism as positive feedback to better your skills.
Self-care
Look after yourself – the first few weeks of a new role can be exhausting; learning new skills and getting into a new routine. Drink plenty of water, make time for lunch, exercise regularly and get plenty of sleep.
Be yourself.
Its only natural to wan to make a good impression on your colleagues and the best and most sustainable way of doing this is to be yourself, put everything into your new role and learn from your mistakes.
Be happy.
Settling into a new environment can be nerve wracking but have fun with new colleagues, appreciate new challenges and opportunities, you deserve your new role – enjoy every minute!
