It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas….
Here at Alexander Mae, we all think Bristol is a wonderful city but as we head towards Christmas it feels particularly magical. Here are some of our favourite activities to help get you in the Christmas spirit….
- Visit a Christmas Market – Head down to Bristol’s Shopping Quarter or catch the train to Bath and spend time browsing the festive stalls whilst keeping warm with a nice, mulled wine or hot chocolate. Alternatively, the Vintage Winter Wonderland in Millennium Square is a wonderful place to get festive bites and drinks.
- Do a Christmas Light Trail – Some the trails we have enjoyed with our friends and family are Christmas at Stourhead, The Festival of Lights at Longleat, Enchanted Christmas at Westonbirt, the Christmas Night Lights Trail at Avon Valley Wildlife Park and Winter Wonderland at Wookey Hole. Old Down Country Park has a new illumination trail this year too!
- Take a Sant Train – Avon Valley Wildlife Park, Dean Forest Railway and Perrygrove Railway are all great fun.
- Go ice skating – There are some fantastic places to ice skate at Christmas in Bristol. Avon Valley Wildlife Park has a great Après Skate bar, alternatively visit the huge outdoor rink at The Mall and fit in some last-minute Christmas shopping or head over to Royal Victoria Park to Bath on Ice. If you fancy an indoor ice-skating experience go to Planet Ice in Cribbs Causeway.
- Plan a Christmas theatre trip – No family Christmas is complete without a trip to the pantomime, this year it is Cinderella at the Hippodrome but there are equally Christmassy alternatives at the Bristol Old Vic which has the Nutcracker and the Snow Queen at the Tobacco Factory.
- See Santa – Ashton Court’s Father Christmas Experience is magical or if your children are Paddington fans, he is back at Cribbs Causeway again this year along with his marmalade themed grotto. Sailing with Santa on the Bristol Ferry is also great fun.
- Treat yourself to a pre-Christmas day of pampering at one of Bristol’s fantastic spas. We love the Lido or Bristol Harbour Hotel but for special treat go to the Gainsborough in Bath.
Whatever you are up to, we hope you are loving the build up to Christmas as much as we are!
