A little help to prepare for… Video Interviews
We are starting to see more job opportunities becoming available again, and whilst face to face interviews may not be happening for many, it’s still important to prepare and give yourself the very best opportunity of securing your dream job. Whilst advice to research about the company recruiting and knowing why you will be perfect for the job and letting them know all about your relevant skills and experience is essential, there are a few more things you may want to consider right now. Remember your CV has got you this far, do ensure you give it your very best shot.
Look behind you….
Do ensure that you see what your interviewers see behind you, check that is not anything (or anyone)visible you would prefer not to be. Remember to let other people in the house know that you are having an interview so there are no unexpected interruptions.
Set yourself up to shine
We always recommend you prepare before the interview. But with video interviews, you should also check that you can log on without any difficultly and that you also have great internet connection. Once you have this, ensure you have the camera angle right (and it’s secure to stay that way for the whole interview)
Dress to impress
You may not want shoes, but do dress to impress. Whilst they may only view your head and shoulders, you may well feel more confident and comfortable dressing in a similar way to how you would should you be arriving at their offices.
As always, keep it positive
You will likely be ask about how you have been coping through the last few months and as we always remind candidates, do keep it positive. We all have good and bad days but think of the tasks you have completed or studies or training you have undertaken during any time off you have had. It shows that even when circumstances aren’t ideal, you have motivation to undertake tasks or activities that perhaps otherwise you would never have achieved. Perhaps showing you will go above and beyond as a future employee.
Ask company questions
Ask about the role and the company of course, but also perhaps ask about how the company has found the last few months, what has been most challenging for them and how have they found it too. It’s great to know how they have adapted and how their business has changed during this time. How a company has looked after their staff in the last few months is a great way to see how they operate as an employer.
Thank you
A little thank you for their time at the end of the call is great, there is no hand shaking right now so if you have loved what you have heard so far, take the time to tell them that. Don’t be afraid to ask about their timescales (what is the next stage or when are you hoping to make a decision). If you want the job, don’t be afraid to let them know
